Powers/Talents: Aside from her great traveling experience, puzzle-solving skills and healthy body, Cynthia is a masterful Pokémon trainer. Her chief Pokémon is Garchomp (a beastly Dragon/Ground-type), but she is also often seen with a variety of others, like Spiritomb, Milotic and Lucario.
The Pokémon world, a place where people live together with the titular magical creatures, is quite similar to our own in both appearance and lifestyle (despite some slight deviations in science, technology and mythology). The specific region that Cynthia hails from is Sinnoh, located to the north. It is a colder climate compared to other regions in the Pokémon world, and has many more ancient secrets buried under it. Since becoming a Pokémon trainer, one who raises and commands tamed Pokémon to do battle, she has devoted herself to unravel the unsolved mysteries of Sinnoh’s mythical past. Her hometown is Celestic Town, located near the center of the region, which is coincidentally the site of very important ruins describing the creation of Sinnoh by god-like legendary Pokémon.

Cynthia, the stylish woman with hair of yellow training Pokémon, encounters the main character of Pokémon Platinum a number of times during the storyline. Introducing herself as a fellow trainer, she takes a fancy to the player and his/her Pokédex quest and offers the occasional gifts that help the player reach that end. Things in this category include HM01 Cut, a Togepi Egg, and the Secret Potion used to heal an ailing flock of Psyduck. She eventually suggests the player to visit her home at Celestic Town in order to deliver an artifact to her mother, addind that it would be an excellent excuse to go check out the local ruins. However, it is there in the Celestic town ruins where the player has a dangerous encounter with the leader of Team Galactic, Cyrus. When Cyrus opens a portal to an alternate dimension (Distortion World, home of the legendary super-Pokémon Giratina) later on in the story, Cynthia appears to assist the player in closing the portal and safely escaping from the other side. All of this is done with a Serene Grace (Heh, pun) that alludes to her being more than the mere "fellow trainer" she claims to be. At the end of the main story arc, when the player challenges the Sinnoh Pokémon Champion, it is revealed that the champion is, in fact, Cynthia, who had anticipated the player's progress due to observing his/her feats during the story. She proudly accepts defeat at the hands of the player, ushering him/her into the Hall of Fame, and even keeps a watchful eye on the player afterward.
